1989 Means Something

Tonight I heard Walter Wink speak. I was a bit disappointed because I had hoped for something new. Everything came out of his book Jesus and Nonviolence. Nontheless, it was a cool thing to see sucn an influential figure in person.

Near the end was the part that struck me most. He said something like, “After 1989, when there were many successful nonviolent revolutions, noone can ever say again that nonviolence doesn’t work. Indeed, nonviolence is the only thing that is working.” I’ve been pondering that ever since I heard it. And I think I will be chewing on that one for a while to come.
