Sermon Text: Luke 19.1-10.
I originally preached this sermon on November 3, 2019, at Atonement Lutheran Church in Beloit. The live version was actually a bit different. It was tailored toward the celebration of All Saints’ Day.
One of the ways our spiritual life is like the rest of life is that we only get out of it what we put into it. I suspect that—as beautiful as the concept is—the theological concept of “Grace” may actually discourage many from engaging the growth process. After all, if we want to say “I can just coast because I have Grace”, we can do that. But when we meet people who are deep spiritually, we find that they are contagious. An encounter with passionate spirituality naturally draws us out of our complacency and drives us to seek “more”.
